Pastor's Message
It’s hard to believe that it’s already August. Summer seems to be flying by so quickly this year, but I hope you have been taking the opportunity to enjoy this lovely season, either travelling or here at home on our beautiful island. Much has been happening during the month of July: the political situation in the United States is undergoing a metamorphosis, forest fires have caused destruction and displacement, but courageous firefighters are assisted by colleagues who have flown in from other countries to help, South Africans and Mexicans to name two. We have been inspired by the dedication and courage of athletes, both in success and disappointment. In our parish, we have been blessed with the joy of a family wedding which lifted all of our spirits. Some have undergone surgeries, others have dealt with illness, and many have spent time with family and friends. As people of faith, we know that God is with us in all circumstances, both joyful and challenging, sharing the journey and guiding our days. We know too that God is with us in a special way when we gather with family and friends, and with our community of faith. Every blessing and prayer for each one of you, whatever your circumstances, in this beautiful month of August. With love Rev. Colleen+

More hands ... lighter work ... "summer cleaning" our kitchenThursday, August 22nd, 11 am, and bring a bag lunch!! We all enjoy the pleasure of a cup of coffee or tea, graciously brewed by David and Kristina. Many of us have enjoyed meals -- whether potluck meals, pancakes and sausages, or the Fantastic Christmas lunches -- in our hardworking kitchen. And, we're all proud that our well-equipped kitchen offers an extra asset to our renters and event hosts. It's time to make sure our kitchen is ready for the even-busier fall and winter season! Marilyn has organized the date and time, now we just need a few more willing hands! It's time to re-organize and clean our many cupboards -- maybe even put some of our equipment through the sterilizer -- and refresh the photographs that provide an easy guide to kitchen equipment. We are nothing if not social creatures, so we invite folks to bring a bag lunch and enjoy the pleasure of each other's company. (As an added "invitation not an expectation," [to quote Rev. Colleen] the timing fits so that you can enjoy the simple midweek Eucharist at 10 am! Just an idea...

Summertime worship outdoors ... sometimes!Third Sunday of August ... August 18th Our wonderful Island weather ... a bit quirky, isn't it? An early reminder that the third Sunday is when we hope to worship together outdoors. Watch the forecast ... be ready to bring hat, sunscreen, folding chair ... |
Welcoming Sunday!Sunday, September 1st - Special Welcome Day! We know the good and sociable people of St. Matthias always greet visitors with a special welcome. But ... We want to encourage everyone to consider extending a special invitation to neighbours, friends, visitors. Early thoughts include having our coffee time in the church ... making it even simpler and more informal (and encouraging us to bring our own re-usable mugs from home to reduce clean-up and prep work). Have you some other ideas to share? Perhaps this is the time you'd like to offer a special treat to share? Weather permitting, we can spill out into the courtyard, and use our lovely picnic tables. Mark the date! Photo by Belinda Fewings on Unsplash |
