Pastor's MessageDecember 2024 Beloved people of God,
We have begun our journey through Advent, the beginning of a new year in the liturgical cycle. While much of the world launches immediately into Christmas, the Christian church takes time to reflect and to wait for Jesus to be born in our lives in new ways. At a time when the world situation is bleak, we are aware that this season is not a joyful one for everyone. As Christians, we hold the pain of the world even as we anticipate the joy of Christmas. We place our hope in God who is actively engaged in the world, in our lives, and yes, in our life as a parish. No matter what we face both individually and collectively, our trust is in the one who holds it all and promises us a future full of hope. In the words of the mystic Julian of Norwich “All shall be well, all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well”. I hope you will take time during this busy season to pray and reflect, to enjoy some quiet time and Christmas will find us all celebrating together the birth of our Savior.
With every blessing,
Rev. Colleen+

Blue Christmas - December 20th, 3 p.m in the Chapel GalleryWhether you’re grieving or need a break from holiday stress, this thoughtful, meditative, quiet service offers comfort and hope. A Blue Christmas Service is offered especially for those hurting during the holidays. Some come because they are mourning the death of a loved one. Some are far from home. Some suffer from illness, addiction, or estrangement. Some are lonely, struggling financially, or estranged. Some hurt because of the great pain, need, and violence in our nation and world. The reasons for coming are many. We gather to remember God is good. God is strong. God is near. We are not alone, and we have every reason to hold on to hope. |
Christmas Dinner in the Hall
Once again we will be offering Christmas dinner in the church hall at 2.p.m on Christmas Day. All are welcome. If anyone is interested in helping to plan or prepare for the meal, there will be a short meeting at the back of the church after the service this coming Sunday, December 8th. |
Continuing, gently, to deck the halls!
As you'll likely notice, we have begun this lovely and gentle approach to Christmas. We honour the season of Advent, while beginning to adorn our church. This Sunday, we invite people to continue the quiet effort, by staying a few moments after worship. It would be great to have a volunteer to purchase a tree (and keep the receipt for reimbursement!!) that we'll place during the coming week. [Unless someone brings it this weekend!]
