I wanted to share with you a conversation that will be coming up in the life of St. Matthias. As you may know, we will be sharing a few upcoming worship services with St Mary's Oak Bay. This has led to the question about whether we might want to share more of our life together. To start to answer that question, we will be having a few conversations. The first will be a joint Parish Council meeting so that the leadership of the two communities can start to discuss what the gifts and challenges of this kind of dialogue might be. We will follow that up with time after church on Nov 3rd to talk as a whole congregation about the possibilities. There is no pressure at all in these conversations. Just an invitation to see where the Spirit might lead us as we look to the future.  If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to be in touch with myself or our Wardens. "Connecting with the Land",  a series of new paintings by Victoria artist Christine Gollner. Inspired by Vancouver Island's beautiful West-coast rainforests and rugged coastlines, Christine paints to communicate the spirit of these strong, yet quiet lands. 

We are excited to be joining with the Abbey Church and Wild Church in our latest book study.  This time around we will be looking at Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book 'Braiding Sweetgrass'. It is a book about Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the teaching of plants. 

Early Christmas shopping!  The sale will feature decorations, re-gifts (those lovely items that were never used), toys, books, cards, lavender, key keepers, hand knit cotton dish cloths, bay leaves, art, china, silver, electronics, plus all the “treasures” donated during October.  Find great bargains!  Last sale for 2019.  All must go, as we empty the balcony storage.

 The Chapel Gallery is a multifunctional, not for profit, volunteer run Gallery that presents six exhibitions a year.  We are currently accepting proposals for our Fall/Spring 2020/2021 program. We invite artists to respond to the concepts around our “Seasonal Themes.”          

On  Nov. 10th at 10 am, we will be joining St. Mary Oak Bay for a special Remembrance Day presentation by the Canadian College of the Performing Arts. A lunch will follow. There will be no Sunday morning service at St. Matthias that day. 

Dear Faith and Community Leaders:   Kristallnacht November 7, 2019: “Remembrance and Action.”  

Kristallnacht is a respectful remembrance of those who suffered on Kristallnacht and in the Shoah (Holocaust) as well as a reminder of how and why we, as a collective society, commemorate such tragic events. Remembrance is essential, however we also must act in tangible ways to protect all peoples in our diverse community.
