Rev. Meagan Crosby-Shearer

Meagan comes to St. Matthias after serving both as a Curate with St. Barnabas Anglican Church and as Priest to the Emmaus Community  (a Neo-Monastic Community in Victoria). She is also part of the leadership team at The Abbey: an emerging church plant in the city. Meagan has had a rich and varied life. Born in Victoria, she has lived in a variety of places across BC as well as Saskatchewan, Australia, the Philippines and short trips to Vietnam and El Salvador. She served in the Philippines for a year as an “ecumenical-intern-in-mutual-mission” with the United Church of Canada and trained as a Postpartum Nurse. Meagan has a passion for creative liturgy and prayer, for social justice, and for engaging ways of telling the story of our faith rooted in the place we have been planted. Meagan has a secret love of musical theatre and gospel choirs and cherishes time spent with her incredible family (her husband Rob and their twins) and walking the ocean and forest paths of the beautiful West Coast! She co-chairs the Liturgy Commission of the Diocese and is thrilled to be serving St. Matthias and the wider Fairfield community.

Victoria Beauchesne – Director of Music

Victoria has loved singing since she joined the junior choir of St. John the Evangelist Church in Ottawa as an eight-year-old. She also studied piano with the church organist, Ewan McQuaig.

Since then, her musical path has been diverse. She has composed and performed, directed three different handbell choirs, and worked as a MusicTogether early childhood educator. She currently teaches piano to all ages; and has worked as a church musician since 2007. Her love of song has grown to encompass accompanying congregations and choral directing in a broad range of musical styles. She welcomes creative collaboration.

Her wide interests have led her to paint murals, obtain her Masters in theatre directing (University of New Mexico), work in film and television, and co-found Victoria Contra Dance. She has lived and worked abroad in Rome, London, Albuquerque, Georgetown Guyana, and Durban South Africa.                                                                                                     When not working, you might find her trying to understand her teenage son’s Dungeons and Dragons dilemmas.

I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted, and behold, service was joy.                                                                                                                                                                               Rabindranath Tagore

Michael C. King  – Parish Administrator

Michael was born in the UK and came to Canada at 9 months old. He doesn’t remember that trip much but has travelled extensively since. He was raised in North Vancouver and moved to Downtown Vancouver at 19. Then in 2005, he had his passport updated, got his shots and moved to Vancouver Island. His career started as a restaurant manager. That developed into becoming a chef, bar and hotel manager. From 2013 to 2015 he owned and operated The King’s Deli on Fort Street. He also worked for Elections Canada and is a certified florist. (Arranging flowers are not as much fun and you think it might be!)

He worships at St. John the Divine and he and his husband Paul were the first same-sex couple to have a Blessing by the Bishop in our diocese.

Michael has three loves in his life, his dogs’ Bandit and Beau, his husband Paul and the theatre. Not necessarily in that order. He has directed and acted for both Langham Court Theatre and St. Luke’s Players, the Fringe and KISS Productions.
